Two Stroke Only race paying $1000 to win at the Speed51 Open

Over the winter, Millbridge Speedway co-owners Ashly and Jeremy Burnett decided to make a change. That change was the addition of a new division of Outlaw Kart racing at the 1/6-mile clay oval in Salisbury, N.C., known as the VP Fuels Outlaw division, which debuted in March this year. On Tuesday, May 22, the Outlaw division will race for $1,000 in the QRC Speed51 Open presented by HMS Motorsport for the first time.

The race will be sponsored by TT Bone Extreme Karting, the Midwest dealer for QRC.

The division is meant for 500cc two-stroke engines only. Drivers and teams can participate in both the Outlaw division event and the Open division event on Wednesday night as long as the kart has a two stroke engine for Tuesday’s race.

“We are excited to add another way for drivers to win big money,” said Ashly Burnett.  “This gives drivers a chance to have more track time and an opportunity to win more money.”

The new division debuted on March 28 with a large kart count and featured some of the best drivers that competed regularly at Millbridge Speedway, such as Tom Hubert, Karsyn Elledge and more.

The VP Fuels Outlaw division will join the Beginner Box Stocks, Box Stocks and Intermediate divisions on the QRC Speed51 Open racing card on Tuesday night.

The QRC Speed51 Open will have a network television airing on MAVTV. The MAVTV broadcast will be produced by Speed51 TV, the broadcasting arm of Speed51.com. The MAVTV production will be different from the live stream of the event that will air on speed51.com.

The event will also be available live to those that cannot make it to the prestigious race via a live stream on Speed51.com.

More details regarding the MAVTV broadcast of the QRC Speed51 Open presented by HMS Motorsport from Millbridge Speedway will be made available soon.

Millbridge Speedway has become the home of Outlaw Kart racing in North Carolina. Millbridge Speedway has seen drivers from all sorts of disciplines race at the track. Those drivers include Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series stars Kyle Larson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., two-time Chili Bowl Midget Nationals champion Christopher Bell, former USAC National Midgets champion Tanner Thorson and more.

The QRC Speed51 Open presented by HMS Motorsport annually sees more than 50 drivers try to qualify for the event. One year ago, it was Nick Hoffman who took home the big check and the trophy.

About Millbridge Speedway

Millbridge Speedway has been in existence for more than 25 years. The Burnetts took over the speedway in 2011 to transform it into a premier Outlaw Kart track. Over the years the Burnetts have added banking, built new walls, put up new lights, and made numerous changes to the speedway to make it one of the best Outlaw Kart tracks in the country. Millbridge Speedway has been featured on national television multiple times over the past few years, including two televised races over the past two years, with drivers from all over the US and Canada coming to race.

New “Outlaw” Class for 2018 and rules update!

New for the 2018 season Millbridge Speedway will be introducing the “Outlaw” class.  The Outlaw class will be a TWO Stroke only class with the rest of the rules the same as the current Open Class.  Teams may also compete in the Open Class with the same kart on the same night giving them a chance to run twice in one night.  This class has been started to help stimulate the kart count and get more racers into the open class.  The rules for the Open division have had a few modifications for the Four Stroke side.  They will now have to weigh 475 pounds with driver.  There will also be a decibel rule in place for 2018 for the Open class as well for the 250 class.  We are currently testing this and it will be updated once testing is completed.  The 2018 rule book is now online.  There will be some minor changes (i.e. decibel rule) before the season begins but nothing major that teams will have to worry about.

For the Speed51 Open and other “big” races we will use the open class rules.  Four Strokes will be allowed to run at those events they just have to meet the 2018 class rules.

The 2018 season kicks off on Wednesday March 14th with our opening night.  We will have an open house/open practice before the season begins.  Date TBA.
